Times have changed, and in 2023 it seems as if it is changing faster than ever before. Especially on how to stream rap music. Letโ€™s take a stroll down memory lane. Itโ€™s 2002, and you are just making it home from school. After you drop your backpack the first thing you do is run to your parentโ€™s desktop computer equipped with the โ€œhigh endโ€ Comcast DSL internet (not so much ๐Ÿ˜…). Next, you go into your music downloading software (not mentioning any names but we all know!) and download dozens of songs your friends have been talking about and plus some newer songs that you love from the radio. After waiting for what seems to be hours for the mp3 files to download, you plug in your MP3 player and transfer them all to your current dope playlist. Presto, you have what would be todayโ€™s Apple Music or Tidal for FREE!

Fast Forward to Today

Now, I must say this. Now that I own a music publishing company, you could probably guess why I condemn this today. This was thievery at its best! Of course, none of the artists/producers/writers got paid or credit for those millions of downloads. Part of the reason why that company doesnโ€™t exist today. If it was not for those illegal downloads, a lot of artists back then would have been multi-platinum selling artists. I advocate for us musicians to get paid for EVERYTHING we touch.
