When was the last time you heard of a new rappers’ name that start with I? Honestly, I can’t quite remember. What is more front of mind is rappers that come out with a name starting with “Lil-” or “Young-.” Although not so common these days, there was a recent boom of new artists coming out of the wood works as “Lil” something or “Young” whoever. Today, rappers’ names are sounding more and more like trending twitter names. Subsequently, just like the latest trend, they come and go very quickly. It’s really hard to keep up!

In the Golden Era of rap music, there were quite a few rappers names that started with I. Although not as many as the other letters of the alphabet, you could definitely name them when asked. A few that come to mind are: Ice Cube, Ice-T, and Inspectah Deck. A few years later you had I-20 (Disturbing Tha Peace). Fast-forward to todays era (hence the twitter names), you have: Iamsu!, ILoveMakonnen, IHeartMemphis and IceJJFish?

IBgorealla is obviously in that small category as well. Ready for a history lesson? (Yes?) In the year 2000, IBgorealla’s name at the time was Lil Skoota. The name was then changed to Iceburg somewhere around 2002. According to him, “I remember watching a music video when I was younger. I believe it was Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri (Money Ain’t a Thang); they were racing down a winding road in two exotic cars. It flashed an image of one of the license plates while they were racing and it said ‘Iceburg.’ Once I decided to take music more seriously, I was like yea that’s me, that’s my persona… I’m Iceburg”

A few years later, he noticed that there were a few more Iceburg names out there and wanted to be more unique. Being from Yazoo City, Mississippi, he frequently referred to it as ‘Zoo City’ in his rhymes. So being from the Zoo, added ‘Da Gorealla’ to the end of his name becoming Iceburg Da Gorealla. The first album under this name was “Orkestrated.” During his hiatus from 2010 to 2020, he was becoming more aware of business and branding techniques. He then shortened his name to IBgorealla.
