The Story of “The Uncommon Cold” Mixtape on Datpiff.com

The Uncommon Cold 2011

Shortly after the release of โ€œOrkestratedโ€ in 2010, IBgorealla began prepping for the sequel โ€“ โ€œOrkestrated 2.โ€ During this time, he started experimenting with different styles and techniques laying the groundwork for his own signature sound. For the first time, he started writing to different instrumentals that were not his own. The beats ranged from underground and local to mainstream producers. Matter of fact, he was even the first one to jump on Chris Brownโ€™s โ€œDuecesโ€ instrumental before Chris Brown did! In 2010 and 2011, it seemed like everyone was jumping in the mixtape game; from up and coming artists to top industry names like Lil Wayne (Dedication 1,2,3; Tha Droughts, No Ceilings) Young Jeezy (The Real Is Back 1, Trap or Die 2), and Fabolous (The Soul Tape).

While experimenting for and working on โ€œOrkestrated 2,โ€ IBgorealla decided to take on his counterparts and also release a mixtape for the time being. This would be his very first mixtape after completing four full studio albums prior. At the time, the mixtape game was very competitive and gaining some major ground even more so than actual albums. With โ€œO2โ€ about halfway complete, IBgorealla released โ€œThe Uncommon Coldโ€ in march 2011 on Datpiff. The mixtape featured verses from collaborators Yung Trez, Redilitary and a remix to Kirko Bangz โ€œWhat Yo Name Izโ€ single.

The mixtape got very good reviews particularly pointing to his lyrical content and delivery. Meanwhile, โ€œOrkestrated 2โ€ was beginning to sound like a timeless classic. Every single song was top tier and IBgorealla was way ahead of his time. The album was heavily featured with frequent collaborator and label mate Hellrayza Jones. It was sure to catapult them amongst the elites in the hip hop industry!

Well, whatever happened to the legendary โ€œOrkestrated 2โ€ you ask? Thatโ€™s a good question. Something definitely โ€œhappenedโ€ but you will have to stay tuned and look out for it in a later post. Until then, you can listen to a snippet of it on theย music page.
