What Are the Best Rap Videos 2018 and Beyond?

What’s better than your favorite song on the radio right now? The perfect music video to compliment it exactly as you imagined it! A good music video can either make or break a good song in my opinion. You can hear a great song and the visual, or your interpretation of it will start playing through your imagination. However, sometimes your interpretation and the director’s interpretation don’t quite line up and it can ruin the entire song for you. Or, just like the song “9-1-1” by Wyclef and Mary J Blidge, the song and the video are the perfect match! The best rap videos 2018 and beyond are not quite in that caliber but there are some that come close.

Today, the art of the music video is not as intense as it was about 10 to 15 years back. Anyone nowadays can hit record on the latest iPhone and call it a music video. When shows like Rap City: Tha Basement and 106th and Park existed, every video was like a mini movie! They complimented the songs so well you just wanted to stare at the TV all day long. A few of my favorite ones were: Bobby Valentino’s “Slow Down,” Aaliyah’s “We Need a Resolution,” Donell Jones’ “U Know What’s Up,” and Petey Pablo’s “Freek-A-Leek.”

I believe part of the reason is because everything today is so accessible; literally any and everyone could do it. You can read more on that topic in a previous post. Even though today’s music videos are watered down, I feel like there are a few that still carry the torch. Here are the best rap videos 2018 and beyond: The Carters “APESHIT,” Childish Gambino “This is America,” and Cardi B “Be Careful.”
